Okay, let’s try this again, now that we’ve got the official stuff. From mmo-c:
Druid (Forums / Cataclysm Talent Calculator / Beta Skills/Talents)

  • Barkskin is no longer dispellable.
  • Healing Touch is now trained at level 78, up from level 3.
  • Lacerate damage has been reduced by approximately 20%.
  • Mangle (Bear Form) weapon damage (at level 80+) has been reduced to 235%, down from 300%.
  • Mangle (Cat Form) weapon damage percent (at level 80+) has been increased to 460%, up from 360%.
  • Maul damage has been reduced by approximately 20%.
  • Mount Up: This guild perk now applies to Flight Form and Swift Flight Form as well.
  • Nourish is now trained at level 8, down from level 78.
  • Omen of Clarity can no longer trigger from helpful spells (aka heals), unless the Restoration talent Malfurion’s Gift is chosen.
  • Rake damage has been reduced by 10%.
  • Rejuvenation is now trained at level 3, down from level 8. In addition, its mana cost has been reduced from 26% to 16%.
  • Rip damage has been reduced by 10%.
  • Shred weapon damage percent (at level 80+) has been increased to 450%, up from 350%.

Talent Specializations

  • The Shooting Stars buff duration has been increased to 12 seconds, up from 8 seconds.
  • Wild Mushroom is now instant cast, down from 0.5 seconds. In addition, the radius of detonation has been increased to 6 yards, up from 3, and damage done increased by 15%.


  • Berserk (instant Mangle proc) now has a new Spell Alert identifier. In addition, Berserk no longer breaks Fear or makes the druid immune to Fear.
  • Pulverize weapon damage percent has been reduced to 80%, down from 100%.


  • Empowered Touch now also affects Regrowth.
  • Nature’s Bounty no longer affects Swiftmend, but now has a new effect. When the druid has Rejuvenation on 3 or more targets, the cast time of Nourish is reduced by 10/20/30%.


  • Glyph of Regrowth now causes the heal-over-time effect to refresh itself on targets at or below 50% health, up from 25%.
  • Glyph of Wrath now increases damage done by Wrath by 10% and no longer requires Insect Swarm on the target.

Metagems (Thanks to those who sent this in)

  • Meta gems with the Chaotic and Relentless prefixes now have a requirement of 3 red gems.
  • Added new meta gems: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.


  • The night elf racial trait Shadowmeld can now be used while shapeshifted.
  • The tauren racial trait War Stomp can now be used while shapeshifted.
  • The worgen racial trait Darkflight now has a 2-minute cooldown, down from 3, and is no longer on the global cooldown. In addition, the movement speed bonus now stacks with existing bonuses, but cannot be activated while Sprint or Dash is active (and they cannot be activated while Darkflight is active).


  • Racials: Finally, the ability to use racials in forms! Tauren get their AOE stun (which is wonderful) and nelves can drop threat (which isn’t super-useful for raiding, but situationally handy). I want to see a shadowmelded bear. :P
  • Balance: Hey, maybe people will use mushrooms now. I just don’t see a niche for it that isn’t better filled by other abilities.
  • Resto: Overall buff; a few OOC procs lost (thanks to those correcting me that most resto OOC procs are from MG), but a BIG reduction in Rejuv mana cost. This will actually help AOE healing, since a bit of prehotting can be done without overly destroying our mana pool. Regrowth still feels too expensive to use outside of an OOC proc, though.
  • Bears: I’ve seen several people claiming that the bear nerfs listed in the official patch notes are the ones already implemented in the November hotfix; can’t confirm either way. Assuming it’s true, there’s lots of anecdotal evidence floating around about tank damage, but based on the numbers I’ve seen, tank DPS is Bears=Warriors>Paladins>>>DK’s, at the moment. (PS. A great site for numbers comparisons is Seri’s Parse Analyzer Tool. Seri, if you’re reading this, I tried to email you but it bounced.) Prot warriors are getting a nerf as well, so bears and warriors will still be roughly balanced, though we’ll be behind Pallies again for ST. DK tanks need a bit of a buff at the moment.
  • Cats: My numbers from yesterday were pretty close. Yawning’s ran everything through his simulator (details here), and found that for a static target, this change is almost entirely dps-neutral. Stat-wise, not too much change. Agi then Str are the best primary stats. Mastery remains the best secondary stat, but not by much; about 10% better than haste, which is slightly better than crit again.  This is a GOOD change; previously, haste’s value dropped off significantly as gear level increased. This mitigated that. Hit/Exp are slightly more important, but still remain inferior stats to the others.
    Several people have commented that this hurts us for fights where we can leave DoTs on targets that become unattackable; this is a fallacy. Yes, your DoT will tick for slightly less, but the damage done by the Shreds (to put the DoT up) will hit for more. On fights where we have to move so much that we can’t get a 5cp Rip up, this will help us. This will help significantly for adds, also.
    (BTW, losing the fear break on Berserk? /shrug. How many bosses have fears in Cata? Can’t think of any offhand.)
  • Metagems: Yay, finally. Droprate remains to be seen, but obviously the Agi meta will be a big help. It’ll also be better then the Relentless meta for emergency tanking.

  1. Alaron, have to disagree with you about cat DPS. Maulrush in the last thread used actual numbers from one of the top cats and showed about a 1.5% drop in DPS from actual raid boss parses.

    Not to mention our standard AOE attack as a cat will be lower (rake, mangle, rip, change target). Was swipe hit again?

    As for bears the DPS nerf already hurts us where we are weak. That is AOE tanking.

    And for PvP this really hurts ferals plain and simple. Not sure if LoTP restores 8% health or just mana. Seen posts that said both and some that just said mana.

    • Maul has good points, but data from a single druid (admittedly over multiple attempts and bosses) still falls into the realm of “anecdotal.” Need more data at this point.
      And yes, that’s a good point about AoE taking a small hit as well for cats, though I don’t think it affects bear AoE significantly. (It’s still bad, but it’s not getting much worse.)
      Depending on your style of PvP, this could either be considered a buff or a nerf.
      LOTP is 4% health, 8% mana; just a tooltip fix.

  2. Re: PVP, IMHO the damage changes are actually a net buff to our damage. People can cheer all they want about our ‘undispellable’ bleeds being reduced, but they’re just going to find themselves in the graveyard faster from direct damage from improved mangles and shreds. Good luck dispelling burst, feral victims.

    The real PVP nerf is the Berserk change. That instantly changes some of our fights versus locks, warriors, and priests. Personally, I have to admit this is the way Blizzard needs to mitigate feral PVP damage – via the fact that we’re one of the most impossible classes to control.

    Keep in mind my calcs were a sample size of 1 feral. We may gain that slight decrease back simply from the metagem change.

    • You had a good analysis method, actually, one I hadn’t immediately thought of. I looked at a few more logs of top ferals, and feral damage from DoTs tends to be the 53-56% range. Mew shows about 50% atm. So yeah, this could be a small nerf to overall DPS.

      • I have to admit, I was taking the +25% Shred/Mangle from other people’s guesses and was too lazy to work out if that was accurate or not – and I think we need to when we’re dealing with something as small as -1.5%.

        I think it will actually increase towards 28% as weapons improve. Taking Zenie’s average Shred, he averaged 13912 Shred over the entire run, working backwards from 3.5x+1155=13912 we get X of 3645. Calculating 4.0.6 Shred, 4.5x+1155, we get a new 17557 Shred, which is actually a 26.2% improvement. Or to simplify, its just his (weapon damage / pre-4.0.6 Shred total)

        Now to demonstrate that 26.2% is not static – let’s say he upgraded his weapon to X=4000. His pre-4.0.6 damage would be 15155, so 4000/15155 = 26.4% buff

        So TL;DR: The Shred buff looks closer to 26%, and as content (weapon) progresses, the Shred/Mangle buff will actually /increase/ in value.

      • I should say, “Closer to 26%, with ferals with the equivalent of Zenie’s weapon”, which is Malevolence-372.

  3. As I’ve been thinking about these changes (instead of working :) ) it dawned on me that with the increase to shred why would we ever do a FB above 25%? Using some of the numbers from MEW my math shows that before the changes shred was around 240 energy equivalents and FB was 263 to 263.

    After the change shred jumps up to over 290 or so. If this is really the case then Blizz just said forget FB and only shred above 25%.

    Well, some of us cats pvp and for us it’s kind of a big deal.

  6. After fighting Valiona last night, yeah, with a wipe, but it was the only raid fight i had on my recount.
    I did 12k dps and had 1,81m damage.
    I then calculated with the new nerf/boost, and i found that the dps difference would be 10k. That’s like 0,6% difference.
    Didn’t really care to test on dummy or something, only did a fast calculation to get some idea on what the difference would be. Not much :)

  8. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t see the Skull Bash change in your list. With the change to that, and the damage switch, does that still not give hit a higher priority?

    I guess I’ll have to make two sets for dps now. One that atleast caps hit for interupt fights (since my guild only does 10man raids).

      It’s because that’s not in the next patch, this already got implemented on the hot fix of January the 6th.

      • The most vital interupt you might be called to do is the adds in P2 of Nef. Just letting 1 go in either 10 or 25 man can cause a wipe as your raid is already taking massive damage.

        The good thing here is these add’s are only level 85 so you only need 5% hit (just under 600). I found that I was able to reforge a little crit/haste on my rings and get the extra 100 I needed for our 25 kill. DPS really gets hurt having to save 25 energy all the time.

        Also to Alaron. I will never underestimate the power of the Hero Bear. Our tank on Nef was killed by the 10% crackle and the healers managed to keep me alive for the last 10% for our first kill. Same thing for our First Omitron kill. Long live the Hero Bear!

  9. question: on mmo champ page 4 it says that these are PTR patch changes, but some may be live. Are the feral rip rake and shread changes live yet? Should i reforge to haste yet or no?
