Stat Priorities gemming 6.0.2

Post by bacevicius » Thu Oct 16, 2014 8:23 am

Ok so I read Pawkets guide and simmed. However it came out sort of close to his... AGI still trumps crit and haste , my question why are people gemming out of agi pure and doing 10-10 haste crit crafty v gems and blue 20 crits and yellow 20 crits? How is this making the dps difference , I just want to know how the forumla for taking your primary stat off of anything when its the most valuable stat according to simcraft now... also are the OLD chants going to get fixed or are they leaving them .. theres a ton of BC chants that have more agi, crit, etc rare drops, rep stuff that are NOT scaling down at all...Please respond if you know the answer to this question b4 I go off farming rep for 5 more agi to gloves :) also scorched leg armor ?? that is our top leg chant now? did they miss these things and hotfixing soon?

You get double the stat budget out of secondary stat gems, while point for point agi may be stronger it's not strong enough to overtake secondaries.

so i just tried the scorched leg armor and what it did was reduce my AP by 10 while crit stayed the same. I'm not using them. try for yourself.

You get TWICE as many points of secondary stat than primary stats on gems THEREFORE Primary stats need to be greater than or equal to DOUBLE the value of Secondarys for Primary stat gems to be desirable.

You can easily work out the values of gems and enchants yourself using simulator scale factors (aka stat weights):

These are the Single target scale factors w/ Assurance of Consequences borrowed from aggix/Pawkets' 6.0 guide.

The values on this chart show the amount of DPS you stand to gain if you were to increase that stat by 1 point. It's a simple matter to take this data and use it to work out a DPS increase value for gem or enchant:

+10 Agility gem = 7.88 * 10 = 78.8 DPS
+10 Crit +10 Haste gem = (6.87 * 10) + (4.61 * 10) = 114.8 DPS
+20 Crit gem = 6.87 * 20 = 137.4 DPS

With regards to old enchants such as Mongoose or Scorched Leg Armor being superior to their Mists counterparts, Watcher (one of the senior WoW developers) stated on Twitter that they intend to fix this soon (source). Spend Gold at your own risk.

At this point I'm starting to think that everyone understands the math behind gemming secondary stats instead of Agility, but some people don't trust the stat weights. :?

Some of the old enchants have been nerfed and I wouldn't be surprised if the tooltips in-game don't reflect it. I'll be doing a look through on what has and hasn't been nerfed today.

Thanks for the great explanation regarding the formula for the secondary stats, I finally understand it.

Looks like all of the enchants were fixed/nerfed but tooltips have not been updated yet.

Mongoose only grants +60 agi on proc.
Glove enchant only gives +5
Cloak is giving +6 agi
Leg armor is also inferior now.

Also appears you can continue to enchant the cloak despite it being ilvl 616. Haven't tested consumables yet.

The enchant restrictions are probably based on the base item level of the item (before upgrades).
