Feral Opener

Post by Kimjongheaal » Fri Oct 24, 2014 3:38 am

I have seen people saying both shred and rake from stealth in opener. What is the true answer here? Is it ever situational or always one over the other???

Your opening ability swaps from shred to rake whenever you unlock the Draenor perk that grants a 100% damage bonus to rake when it's used from stealth.

And to remind everyone - make sure that you are close to the boss when executing your opener, because if you are not you will open with autoattack instead of Shred and your Glyph of Savage Roar won't trigger a 5 CP Savage Roar.

Or you can just not right click the boss to initiate the attack.

Trying to cast Shred/Rake turns on your autoattack, it has nothing to do with right clicking the boss. If your Shred or Rake fails for whatever reason (range) then you will auto and break stealth instantly when you do get in range.

A "/cast Shred/Rake /stopattack [stealth]" macro should fix this, no :? ?

I use for shred.

Code: Select all

#showtooltip
/cast Shred
/stopattack [stealth]
and I'm sure this will work for rake too.

Code: Select all

#showtooltip
/cast Rake
/stopattack [stealth]
I have these macros on my rake/shred buttons, it wont hurt it while not in stealth, and it will help not lose the full SR during opener.

At least if you're using Incarnation you don't have to worry about the opener nearly as much.

Do the macros actually work, by the way?

The Macros sound reasonable to be honest. I'm going to give them a try.

They've been working fine for me. I used to have SR not apply on openers at all, 100% success since I used them.

Not certain if they'll interact badly with Incarnation though.

I just realised I actually have the macros already. It should work fine with Incarnation then since I didn't have any problems last night. Shows how much attention I've been paying >.<

I don't understand why Rake is the opener on simulationcraft (http://www.simulationcraft.org/reports/ ... ml#player5 APL -> sample)

A bug with rake,if=buff.prowl.up|buff.shadowmeld.up ?

IDK why Simcraft has it as the opener other than its assuming you have the Improved Rake buff. Improved Rake(100% inceased Dmg when coming out of Stealth) is a leveling perk that you get anywhere from 92-100 depending on luck.

At level 90 we do not have that perk so Shred is the way to go ATM.

because the APL is designed around level 100, not 90

For some reason, unlike Shadow Dance for rogues Incarnation doesn't cause the stealth macro conditional to evaluate to true, at least last time I checked.

No particular reason. Its a very very small difference so nobody has bothered to make the APL use the proper logic for something that only applies to level 90s.

The simc apl is primarily optimized for level 100. There are a few 90-specific optimizations in there, but don't take it as canon. Pawket's guide and this forum are probably better sources for level 90. We can adjust it to only add in Rake perk lines iff the perk is present, but it would only be relevant for a couple weeks.

Edit: See Shmoo beat me
