LFR vs. 522 gearing
Is there a consensus on the value of T15 set bonuses (when the tier pieces in question are ilvl 502 from LFR) vs. the value of the extra stats on ilvl 522 gear (Shado Pan Assault gear or LW-crafted)? I'm sitting on some mats and a lot of VP, but I'm not sure if I should still be going for 4T15. I have the 2 piece bonus (legs and chest) at the moment.
Obviously it doesn't make sense to spend time modeling an elaborate "BiS if you're stranded in LFR" list, but a gut check on the basic strategy would be really useful for a lot of folks, I suspect.

Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
Not sure anyone's really modeled this. When I was deciding to break 2T14 with my T15 chest (already had 2 piece from other slots and wouldn't make 4 piece yet) I had to run simcraft myself. As it turned out the T15 chest was a pretty large upgrade over the 496 T14 chest even when dropping the set bonus, so my gut feeling is that 522 would be an upgrade but idk the value of the T15 pieces
Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
Definitively, I am unsure I've seen a confirmation that LFR T15 2 pc is worth breaking reg T14 4pc. As I recall, the T14 2 pc was quite weak, which further suggests that Valor 522 pieces might further be warranted for damage as well.
I did see a post from aggixx saying approx 2.5% increase in T15 2pc over Heroic T14 2 pc, but I wasn't clear if that was lfr/reg/heroic T15 used...
Thanks,
Adi

Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
The 2.5% figure is simply "if you have 2 sets of gear that you are exactly identical, one with the set bonus and one without" then the set bonus is a 2.5% increase. That does not account for any sort of stat changes.
Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
Sorry if I"m being dense, but is there a known statement that reg T14 4 pc VS LFR Tier 15 2 pc is both worth breaking T14 4pc and then would we be smarter using 522 ilvl items instead of the remaining Tier 14 2pc? The tier 14 2 pc was weak as I recall, and therefore the higher ilvl might overtake the older tier 2pc bonus.
Thanks,
Adi

Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
I don't see why it wouldn't be, but if you want to be absolutely sure you'd have to sim it yourself.
Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
Thanks everyone. I'll try to sim some ideas myself later this week, but maybe I should reframe the question.
How would you rank the following three gear sets?
* 4T15 (ilvl 502 from LFR)
* 2T15 (ilvl 502 from LFR) + 2 offset (ilvl 522)
* no tier pieces + 4 offset (ilvl 522)
I think I understand the relationship between T14 and T15 bonuses... don't break 4T14 until you can get 2T15. I'm more puzzled by the comparison between T15 set bonuses and the pure stats on higher ilvl VP or crafted gear.
If I figure anything out math-wise I'll post it...

Re: LFR vs. 522 gearing
Thanks Anjuk. You did indeed do a far superior job in reframing my question. I look forward to your response. Also, I'm not a techie, but did decide to attempt to download Catus as I thought this might be a good thing to assist here too. Is that in fact accurate or is it primarily for the reforge questions it most frequently used in supporting?

In Catus v5, you could setup your gear with one configuration, then under "Simulation: Distribution" generate a simple report for that gear, with all buffs/talents/whatever selected. Then change your gear to a different configuration, and run the report again.
Unfortunately, the distribution feature is using an inefficient version of the simulator and is only launched on a single thread, so the sample size is small, and might not be very significant.
The QoL upgrade you get from 2pT15 is amazing. And the 4p is just godly for both massive Rips and excellent AoE. Whether or not this can overcome 20 ilvl of gear, I'm not sure.
In v6, this will be a single button press to figure out if X config > Y config.
